Bank clerk exams (IBPS Clerk for public-sector banks, SBI’s equivalent junior associate recruitment) fill customer-facing clerical roles — steady banking careers with internal promotion tracks toward officer grades.
Clerk papers use the same sections as PO but pitch questions slightly easier and reward raw speed even more: high-scorers routinely attempt nearly the full paper.
Exam pattern

Syllabus highlights
Numerical ability centres on simplification/approximation, number series, arithmetic word problems and lighter DI than PO. Reasoning uses shorter puzzles, seating, alphanumeric series, directions and syllogisms. English mirrors PO at a gentler level. Mains adds general and financial awareness — banking terms, RBI basics, schemes and recent months’ current affairs — which becomes the real differentiator.
Preparation strategy
Treat the clerk prelims as a 60-minute sprint: the syllabus is compact, so once concepts are done, everything is speed drills.
- Daily 10-minute simplification/approximation sprints until 25+ correct becomes routine.
- Alternate puzzle sets and series drills in reasoning; track seconds-per-question.
- Sectional mocks thrice a week, full mocks weekly; push attempts up without letting accuracy drop below ~90%.
